Think Outside the “Mailbox” for Newsletter Distribution
You may have a comprehensive mailing list for your printed newsletter, but don’t neglect additional distribution opportunities. Be sure to order additional copies to hand out in person.
For example, distribute copies of your newsletter at speaking engagements, seminars and conferences. While a business card conveys your contact information, a newsletter is solid evidence of your knowledge and professionalism—and it includes contact information as well. Here are a few ways to effectively distribute your newsletter to other professionals:
- Speak to an audience about a topic in the current issue of your newsletter.
- If you are invited to speak, place a newsletter on every chair. This is more effective than leaving a stack on a table at the back of the room because many people may bypass the table.
- At a seminar or conference, have your newsletter included in the information folders that are distributed to attendees.
- Include a bounce-back postcard in your newsletter, making it simple for a reader to request additional information or subscribe to your newsletter. If you don’t include a bounce-back postcard, make sure your contact information is prominently displayed and that recipients of your newsletter know they can contact you for more information or to subscribe to your newsletter.
These distribution tips require a small amount of time and effort. But the payoff can be significant. New readers could become new subscribers, and some of these people may become clients at a future date.
