How Often Should You Send a Newsletter?
The answer to this question depends on the nature of your practice, your audience and your marketing budget. At minimum, we recommend sending a newsletter four times per year. How often you mail a newsletter depends on the nature of your professional practice, your audience and your budget.
We publish quarterly newsletters for a variety of practices—dental, financial planning, legal, medical and physical therapy. In addition, we have found that a monthly newsletter is more appropriate for some fields, such as accounting, where tax laws change at the whim of politicians in Congress. For accountants who wish to keep their clients abreast of all these changes, we publish Client Information Bulletin.
But many of the health care practices who utilize our newsletters have discovered a third option, somewhere between monthly and quarterly. They have opted to purchase two different quarterly newsletters in their fields and stagger them so that their names appear on the desks of referring providers eight times each year.
For example, ACME Pediatric Dentists might purchase Pediatric Dentistry Update and Report on Pediatric Dentistry, both quarterly newsletters that deliver relevant information to pediatricians and general dentists. Our clients who utilize this third way find it an efficient method to market to their referral sources on a more frequent basis. Instead of four times a year, they deliver informative, valuable content about every six to seven weeks.
