I’ll bet that when you went to school to become a doctor, dentist, attorney or accountant, you didn’t think you’d end up being a writer. But these professions often require you to compose various communications for consumption by your associates, the general public or both. And your writing will generally reflect your technical expertise on matters near and dear to your heart.

Why stop there? Your local newspaper may be looking for an inexpensive way to provide information to a dwindling readership. Or maybe they’re just hoping to “fill space.” Either way, you could turn yourself into a newspaper writer without doing lots of legwork.

Simply get on the phone or e-mail the editor. Once you find the right contact, explain that you can provide regular columns on issues or new developments in your profession. All you’re requesting is a byline and a small photo, so they’ll probably need little prodding. Next thing you know, you’re a featured writer generating massive name recognition for your practice. Best of all, the newspapers are available to people in your geographic area who will be inclined to use your services.

If you don’t feel comfortable writing your own materials, WPI Communications can do the hard work for you. We provide informative content that can easily be adapted for a variety of uses, including newspaper columns. Our staff will be glad to assist you.
